What a season! After transitioning from the field hockey season in 2020 to the 2020/2021 indoor hockey season, the webpage updates have been rather limited. We are finally in a position to post more regular updates as we prepare for the outdoor season, which holds several exciting changes. If your are following our social media platforms, you may have noticed as much.
Although the the Warrior ladies only had three practice sessions during the indoor season before Covid-19 threw a spanner into the plans for the indoor season, the team persevered and committed to playing matches as scheduled by the federation, whilst adhering to the safety guidelines for tournaments in the SM series. For quite some time the uncertainty over whether matches would go ahead as scheduled loomed over the players. An announcement was made that matches would continue with an adjusted schedule.
Roaring with the spirit of champions, the ladies played their matches this season in customary fantastic spirit and left it all on the playing surface. Their expected fighting spirit continued during the indoor season despite not having a consistent team during the season in terms of regular players in attendance. All matches were played in Hämeenlinna, which means that the team had to travel for all their matches.
Raring to go, the ladies started the season well and gave the opponents a run for their money despite a slow start and despite suffering a few unfortunate losses. During the course of the season the team started playing better and with more determination. As their coach, I am so proud of the ultimate bronze medal obtained on the expedited final day of play. We would like to thank all the opponents for a fantastic and memorable indoor season, though under less than ideal circumstances. We promise to give you an even tougher time during the next indoor season. Ladies, thank you for an incredible indoor season!
In other exciting news, the Warriors junior ranks are expanding and we are proud to have 27 juniors on our roster. Ressu Comprehensive School joined the Warriors juniors ranks with a host of eager, young players, adding to the players from the International school of Vantaa and individual players from a few other schools. With these numbers, the future of youth hockey is bright. We would like to thank our players, parents and all stakeholders for their unwavering support during these unprecedented times.
Only one under-13 tournament was played this past indoor season due to strict Corona regulations. The Warriors entered two teams and both teams did well. ISV Warriors took the honors and Ressu Warriors placed second. As an experienced team, ISV Warriors asserted their dominance, but Ressu Warriors provided plenty of resistance. We are excited about the promise that the outdoor season holds.
Retrospectively the season has been a phenomenal considering the playing conditions. We are looking forward to a time where we can socialize again and our matches can be attended by spectators, hockey enthusiasts, prospective players, family and friends. Hockey is definitely not the same without the support of our spectators, but we do what needs to be done in order to adhere to health and safety regulations.
Spectacular updates made during the past few months in preparation for this outdoor season await our opponents and we cannot wait to share the changes that are on its way. It has been a lengthy but rewarding process, and even though we are itching to let the proverbial cat out of the bag, we will keep everybody in suspense. If you are looking for a new sport to play this summer, join our welcoming and vibrant club.
