The men’s team have finished the outdoor season with a historic gold medal in the Finnish Championship.
Following our increasingly strong performances in the regular season, we went into our first ever outdoor final hungry to claim the trophy. We had two wins over our opponents HT-85 earlier in the season and we were confident that this was our year.
With no goals in the opening quarter, we knew we had to press harder and finally got a point on the board with a penalty corner in the second. We held the lead for twenty minutes despite conceding a number of fouls in our circle. Towards the end of the third quarter we managed to extend our lead to 2-0 and our ironclad defence held throughout the fourth to finish with a clean sheet.
This decisive victory continues our streak of championship firsts. Last year we achieved our first medals with bronze for both outdoor and hockey5, and then silver for indoor. With the coveted outdoor trophy now in our hands, we look forward to improving on our other medals and the EuroHockey Club Challenge in 2024.
I will save the speech for another outlet. But I have to thank assistant coach Bob Joosten for his calm wisdom, and head coach Alex van Hooren for his passionate transformative efforts to elevate the whole team. Last but certainly not least, on behalf of the whole team, I would like to thank club President Vicky Moga for his tireless work over the years. We won this one for you Vicky.
