Today marked the end of a fantastic season of outdoor field hockey for our club as we played our final match against BMT at the Helsinki Velodrome. Our team dominated from the start and BMT rarely penetrated our defensive quarter. The Warriors could, however, have converted more goal scoring opportunities with more effective build-ups and more accurate passing. The Warriors ended the match with a score of 9-0. The official results are as follow:
The Warriors tops the chart in terms of goals scored for the season as well as those for assisted play and ends the season with only 3 goals scored against, quite a remarkable achievement.
In retrospect it is fantastic how we have developed during the course of the season to become better players, but also better human beings as we shared many a memorable moment with all the members of our club, young and old, experienced and inexperienced. We welcomed a number of new players into our field hockey family and enjoyed the laughs and cries as a team and we certainly had plenty of those this season.
The year started with physical aches and plenty of sore muscles in an effort to increase our fitness levels to facilitate a better game, and the hard work has certainly reaped rewards. We started the season with a defeat against our hockey rivals Vantaa HC, but as the season progressed we became increasingly stronger.
Besides ending the season at the top of the table, we more importantly built bridges with our competitors and displayed a friendly and spirited attitude and approach to our matches on and off the pitch most of the time. This is something we can definitely improve on during the next outdoor season.
We would like to thank our President Bikramjit Singh, fondly known as Vicky, our team captain Jaffray Williams for a superb season of guidance as well as support and naturally all of our members and players for contributing to the highly successful year. We eagerly anticipate another year under your guidance. We hope that the Warriors family will grow even more next season as we aim to recruit more players to join our multi-cultural club.
