Thank You For An Awesome And Highly Enjoyable Tournament!
The Helsinki Warriors this year decided to accept the invitation of a fellow field hockey club, Mesaicos based in Solna, Stockholm. The decision proved to be exceptional since the time spent in Stockholm, on and off the field, was unforgettable to say the least. One could immediately notice that we were no longer in Finland since all participating teams were overwhelmed by hospitality, in addition to a welcoming and positive spirit that characterized the duration of our stay.
We managed to gather 7 players out of the initial 10 whom opted to travel to Stockholm. As is often the case, we were heavily outnumbered during the 6-a-side tournament with other teams managing to field teams more than double our number of players. Our team consisted of 2 men and 4 women of varied skill and experience level. True to form, we once again proved that despite the lack of players, we would not go down easily. We remained positive despite fatigue and injury dampening our chances proving once again that our spirit cannot be extinguished that easily.
I would like to thank Vicky our amazing goalkeeper, Visa our tournament captain, Stela and Michelle our most recent recruits and newbies, as well as Elisa and Taryn whom have been playing for the past two outdoor seasons. Your contributions on and off the field will be remembered by many. As a fellow player and teammate I could not be more proud of how we conducted ourselves during the tournament.
Mesaicos, thank you for a fabulous tournament and hopefully when you host the tournament again, we will arrive with larger numbers and give you a run for your money. Thank you for an unforgettable time, the spirit of cooperation and the respect which prevailed during the course of the entire tournament.
To all the teams, Boomshakanacka, HC Praha (Seriously Vintage), Untouchaballs and Goaldiggers, it was a massive privilege to be able to join you in Stockholm for this unforgettable tournament. We will hopefully see you in Helsinki or in your city for another captivating hockey tournament.
The following photographs depict our tournament journey on the field. We will eventually add some pictures from a more social perspective where I do believe certain members of our team made quite the impression.
