Another Fantastic Indoor Hockey Tournament For The Helsinki Warriors

Ecstatic After The Final Match

Both the ladies and the 1st Division mixed team had good results during the indoor tournament yesterday, 1 December 2019, hosted at the Herttoniemi Sports Hall. Naturally, better results could have been attained. After a sluggish start for both teams the first matches of the day did not conclude successfully. In typical fashion, both second matches of the day saw a team with a different mentality and a more focused approach to the game.

The ladies played their first match against inspired opponents. They ultimately lost their first encounter 5-1, bowing out to Porvoo HC. They needed to regroup for the second portion of the day when pitted against Vantaa HC. The first two quarters did not go as planned but the team played an inspired final two quarters as they were all fired up and motivated towards attaining a victory. A series of goals ensued that spurred the players on even further. The final score in the second encounter saw the Warriors ladies reign victorious with a scoreline of 6-2. Angela Scudier scored the goal for the Warriors in the first encounter and Rowina D’amico assisted. In their second match the goals were scored by Rowina D’Amico (1), Angela Scudier (3), Juliana Häkkilä (1) and Reeta Malkamäki (1).

We would like to use this opportunity to welcome three newcomers to the Warriors family. Saana, Reeta and Pim, we hope that you will find a home amongst the members of our club and that you will enjoy every single moment whether we win or lose. Yesterday was some of your very first games of the indoor season, and we hope to see you on the field the next time playing with as much passion and determination as you did this past Sunday.



The 1st-Division mixed team also played two matches in their first indoor season tournament for 2019/2020. Although the first match against ABC did not go as planned, the Warriors played a good match against an in form ABC and lost the encounter 1-4. The goal scorer during this encounter was Hardeep Singh. The second match proved that changing tactics and implementing a new game plan could mean the difference between winning or losing. In the second match The Warriors faced Urjala, under the guidance of capable captain Olli Vesakoski, a team filled with plenty of fit and fast youthful players. The warriors played a phenomenal game to emerge as victors. The match was characterized by consistent and accurate passing and superb dribbling and evasive skills. The Warriors defense also kept the opponents at bay, in effect, minimizing scoring opportunities for the opponents by maintaining as much possession as possible. The match ended with a 7-1 final score. The goal scorers for the Warriors were Hardeep Singh (2), Hayden Gwindi (1), Gurdit Gill (1), Pim Beem (3). Assists were facilitated by Noel Cavernelis (2) and Pim Beem (1). 13-Year old Joban Khaira made some incredible saves and the youngster is improving with every tournament, thus showing that he will be a goalkeeper to be reckoned with in the near future.
